[Final Draft] Assignment 1 (Summary and Analysis)
The LinkedIn website for Automatic introduces this product, a SiriusXM Company connected car assistant application that relays information to drivers data regarding their driving behaviors, their vehicles, and their journey thus reducing the fear factor of any incidents occurring while driving. The app monitors the safety precautions the drivers take as well. With Automatic's self-installation connector and phone application, parts can be installed to the vehicle allowing it to be compatible with the application, assuming that the vehicle was dated 1996 or later Automatic not only provides a safer drive through monitoring, but it can also detect and troubleshoot motor issues, provide incident reports to emergency contacts, and potentially save costs in incident reports. While there are many competitors with similar products in the market, the Automatic app is a relatively useful product that is superior as it provides built-in network connectivity, GPS and has the ability to motivate efficient driving.
One such function that makes Automatic a superior app is its built-in network connectivity(Fleishman, 2016; Ruddock, 2016). Automatic has an easy online guide for installing the adapter to access a network. Even without a network connection, the device will still operate. Compared to one of their competitors Zubie Key, which requires a specific car model for their device to work and whose adapter also needs a cellular connection to collect data otherwise it would just cache the data till a network connection is found. The Automatic's adapter is self-independent after installation, making it convenient to use as it will operate without any need to switch it on or activate a certain setting while driving. The only issue is that Bluetooth is needed when installing the system and not all cars are compatible with that particular adapter model. Thus, if the driver were to purchase a new vehicle, he may have to purchase a different adapter model as well.
Another useful function that makes Automatic a superior app is its GPS tracker. Not only does it register the location of the user's vehicle, but it can also provide the user's travel data( Fleishman, 2016; Ward, 2014). It can also keep track of the number of trips needed to be done for that particular week. When traveling to the user's destination, the app will display the previous path used, including the infringements made along that path. The user can also tap into past history records, making the app user-friendly. The app will also contact and alert loved ones when it detects that the user has been caught in an accident. Hence, providing them the information regarding the condition of the user and his/her location.
An essential function that makes Automatic superior to its competitors is its ability to motivate efficient driving(Ward,2014; Fleishman, 2016). The app will constantly be observing the user's vehicle's motor, acceleration sensors, bearing's information and would alarm the driver of any driving infringements which would increase petrol consumption(e.g. extreme speeding, sudden accelerations, and brakings). The app also helps young drivers provide their instructors with an easier alternative to analyze their driving behaviors. It can also help provide insurance agents data on how safe the driver is before providing them with their potential premium prices. I find this specific function particularly useful as the information provided in this app has so many benefits to it. It helps the driver and external users have an easier time working with each other and it also makes a driver more conscious about their driving behavior as they are being observed and graded.
In conclusion, Automatic provides built-in network connectivity, GPS and has the ability to motivate efficient driving. It keeps track of the user's traveling behavior and optimizes fuel consumption. The app will provide convenient routes to the user's destination, enhance the driver's capabilities to drive and reduce the number of infractions made.
